Katrina Kaif, who made her debut in Bollywood with Kaizad Gustad’s ‘Boom’, credited David Dhawan’s film ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ as a turning point in her career.
It was my most special film with Salman. I am told that the first success is a lot like first love. You can’t forget it. But for me, my first hit — Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya, is like a blur. All I remember is that we had loads of fun while shooting. The scenes were so funny that we’d be laughing our heads off between shots and trying to keep a straight face while shooting. Thankfully for us, the audience also found the film as funny. And it went on to become a big hit.”
Katrina revealed that her first success felt like a dream to her and the initial success did not fully sink in. In fact, she has never paused to contemplate whether a project was successful or not. For her, progressing and pursuing work that aligns with her beliefs is essential to her existence. She prefers to continue moving forward rather than focusing on quantifying her success rate.
She even recalled she had a fun time on the sets while shooting with Salman Khan. The actress shared, “I can never forget the amount of fun I had while shooting for the film with Salman Khan and his brother Sohail. I was relatively new to the industry. They made me feel comfortable. Meri Hindi itni achchi nahi thi. But they never made me feel like a newcomer. Sohail was playing my friend and neighbour. Some of my funniest scenes involved him and Salman playing cat-and-mouse around my apartment. It was hilarious.”
Katrina said that the success of ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ didn’t surprise her. She stated, “Frankly, I wasn’t surprised that the film worked. David Dhawan is the master of comedies. He wanted to try out a new language of expression. I was happy to be a part of that change. I think he even got new technicians on board. The film looked different from his earlier movies.”
She further added that ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ was very important to her. The actress revealed that though later she collaborated with Salman on several projects, ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ holds a special place in her heart.
Helmed by David Dhawan, ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ starred Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen, Katrina Kaif, Sohail Khan and Arshad Warsi in pivotal roles. It was released on July 15, 2005.
