Jasprit Bumrah is arguably one of the superstars of the game. He is currently the best bowler across formats in World Cricket. He can definitely be called as one of the all time great. Recently, Australian fast bowler, Pat Cummins lead Australia to ICC World Test Championship 2023 title and also to the ODI World Cup 2023 title. He proved that fast bowlers can be a potent and successful captain as well. In a recent interaction, Bumrah said that fast bowlers are also great captaincy candidates because they work hard to outshine in a batsmen dominated game.
Jasprit Bumrah Calls Fast Bowlers As Smart Captains
“I feel bowlers are smart people, as we have to get the batters out. We are always fighting the odds as the grounds are shorter, the bats are better. I don’t remember any article or technology coming to swing the ball a lot more. People enjoy the ball being thrown around and enjoy sixes being hit,” Bumrah said at an event.
Bumrah cited the examples of Wasim Akram, Kapil Dev and Imran Khan and said that bowlers who fight hard on the field to pick up wickets can be great leaders in this game. He called the bowlers smart but agreed that captaincy responsibility goes to the batters because the bowlers have a huge workload and stressed.
“Fighting the odds make you a lot braver, leadership needs you to be brace. We have seen Pat Cummins doing really well. I have seen Wasim Akram captaining. Kapil Dev and Imran Khan have won a World Cup. Bowlers are the smart ones. Sometimes, physically it is stressful, that’s why leadership goes to batters. In my opinion, bowlers are the smart ones,” Bumrah added.
