Sri Lanka registered a clinical 110-run victory against Team India in the third ODI on Wednesday (August 7) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The hosts won the three-match series by a 2-0 margin, as the first ODI ended in a tie.
After opting to bat first in the final ODI, Sri Lanka notched up a decent total of 248/7 in 50 overs on a turning surface. Avishka Fernando (96), Pathum Nissanka (45), Kusal Mendis (59), and Kamindu Mendis (23) performed well for the home team in the batting department.
Youngster Riyan Parag was impressive on his debut for India with the ball, scalping three wickets with his part-time spin.
In response, Rohit Sharma once again gave India a brisk start with a cameo of 35 (20) in the powerplay. However, the batting line-up collapsed meekly after his departure and surrendered without putting on a fight.
Left-arm orthodox spinner Dunith Wellalage stole the show with a five-wicket haul for Sri Lanka in the bowling department, spinning a web around the opposition batters.

“We wanted to back our strength”- Sri Lanka captain on spin-friendly pitches after series win vs India
At the post-match presentation, Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka reflected on the victory, saying:
“I’m a happy captain right now, the team did all the things right throughout the series. We all knew that they have a strong lineup, we wanted to back our strength – spin bowling. We did that. (On turning wickets) The batters struggled a bit, but if you want to win a series, you need to do things like that.”
He continued:
“They are in a really good mood right now, especially the coach, he’s an active guy all the time. He made a few changes, new environment in our team, and we are enjoying it a lot.”
It was Sri Lanka’s first ODI series win against the Men in Blue in 27 years, with their previous triumph coming in 1997.
