Gaikwad was the captain of the Indian Cricket team in the Asian Games 2023 and led India to a gold medal. He also performed remarkably well in the recently concluded 5-game T20I series vs Zimbabwe. However, his performance still could not earn him a place in the T20I squad against Sri Lanka.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have found their place as the openers. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is back to play in the ODI squad. Hence, Gaikwad could not find a place in the ODI squad even.

Former India Players Lashes Out At The Selectors For Ignoring Rinku Singh And Ruturaj Gaikwad

Former India cricketer, Subramaniyam Badrinath criticised the Indian selectors for snubbing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rinku Singh despite the performances. Moreover, he went on to say that dating a Bollywood actress, having a good PR team and body tattoos may be the only criteria for selection in the Indian Cricket Team

“Sometimes it seems like you need a bad guy image when the likes of Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad and others are not selected for the Indian team. It seems that you need to be in a relationship with some Bollywood actresses, have a good media manager, and have body tattoos,” Badrinath said on Cric Debate with Badri.

Gaikwad has performed really well in the limited matches that he has played for India. Meanwhile, he is an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings’ batting line-up in the IPL and is now the captain of the team as well. On the other hand, Rinku Singh has fared incredibly well in the role of a finisher in the last year or so.
