Ever since the makers released the trailer of the Kareena Kapoor-starrer The Buckingham Murders, netizens drew parallels between the Bollywood film and Kate Winslet’s miniseries Mare of Easttown.
Hansal Mehta is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor in the lead role. The director, along with the actress, recently unveiled the trailer of the film at a grand event. However, soon after the trailer launch, netizens began to compare the film with Kate Winslet’s miniseries Mare of Easttown. Now, the Scoop director has reacted to the comparisons.
An X user recently tagged Mehta in a post and claimed his film The Buckingham Murders is inspired by Mare of Easttown. The user wrote, “Mare of Easttown… God please! Plz get something original…” The director quickly responded to the post and wrote, “Decide after you watch. Don’t jump to conclusions.”
During the trailer launch event, Kareena Kapoor too was asked if her role in the Hansal Mehta directorial was inspired by Kate Winslet’s character in Mare of Easttown. The actress replied, “The script came to me a year before Mare of Easttown released. Actors should draw inspiration from other actors; it is kind of a motivation to make you want to do better. I am a huge Kate Winslet fan and I watch her work closely.”
The director also clarified that the film wasn’t an adaption of Mare of Easttown. The Kate Winslet project in question is an American crime drama television miniseries created and written by Brad Ingelsby for HBO. The series premiered on April 18, 2021, and concluded on May 30, the same year. In the seven-episode miniseries, Kate investigates a murder in a small town outside Philadelphia.
The Buckingham Murders is shot 80% in English and 20% in Hindi. It also stars Ranveer Brar in an important role. The Kareena Kapoor-starrer is all set to hit screens on September 13. This will be Kareena’s second big screen film this year after Crew.
