Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has long been celebrated for his illustrious career, but a resurfaced interview sheds light on a personal decision he made with his wife, Jaya Bachchan, regarding the division of his property. In a 2011 interview with Rediff, the veteran actor openly discussed how he and Jaya had decided years ago that their daughter, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, and son, Abhishek Bachchan, would inherit equal shares of their assets after his demise.

Bachchan, often seen as a towering figure in Indian cinema, revealed his progressive stance on inheritance. He explained that the couple rejected the traditional mindset of considering daughters as “paraya dhan” (someone else’s wealth) and made it clear that Shweta would not be treated any differently than Abhishek. The actor emphasised that there would be no discrimination between his children, and whatever wealth he had would be equally divided between them.

This decision, as Bachchan noted, was not made lightly. He and Jaya had thoughtfully considered their family’s future and resolved to ensure both their children received equal treatment. In fact, Bachchan had already gifted his famous bungalow Jalsa, valued at ₹50 crore, to his daughter Shweta. This move further underlined the actor’s firm belief in equality between sons and daughters.

As Amitabh Bachchan shared in the interview, “When I pass away, whatever I have will be divided equally between my daughter Shweta and son Abhishek. I do not discriminate between my children.” His statement reflected a break from the age-old traditions in many Indian households, where sons typically inherit the bulk of family wealth.

This revelation comes at a time when rumors surrounding Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai’s relationship have been circulating, adding another layer of public curiosity to the Bachchan family’s affairs. Despite these rumors, the actor’s old interview has sparked renewed interest in his personal beliefs and values.

Today, Bachchan’s wealth is estimated at ₹1,600 crore, making him one of Bollywood’s richest stars, according to the Hurun India Rich List 2024. His most recent film, Kalki 2898 AD, saw him sharing the screen with actors like Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.
