Gautam Gambhir is the new head coach of the Indian team. His first assignment will be against Sri Lanka. Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In the recent series against Zimbabwe, VVS Laxman was given the charge of the coaching staff.
Kapil Dev, the former India captain, wished the Men in Blue good luck.
Gambhir has no coaching experience, but he has served as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. He is expected to advocate for an aggressive brand of cricket.
Former players have lauded the move as they think Gambhir has the skill set to lead the Indian team to new heights.
Kapil Dev, the former India captain, wished the Men in Blue good luck.
“If Gautam Gambhir is coming on board as the new head coach, I wish him good luck and also to the players,” Kapil told PTI.
Meanwhile, Gambhir wants Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to play in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, as there are only a handful of the five-over games before the Champions Trophy 2025.
