Pakistan Cricket is in real mess right now. Internal politics and also political interference in the board is hampering their cricket at the moment. They had a shambolic performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, in which they suffered a humiliating defeat against India and Afghanistan. They were knocked out of the group stage and Babar Azam was forced to leave the captaincy. Shaheen Shah Afridi was made the T20I captain and Shan Masood was same the test captain.

Since then there have been reports circulating that all is not well between Babar Aam and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Meanwhile, ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, Shaheen was sacked as a captain suddenly and Babar took over the reigns yet again. Pakistan had yet another shambolic campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 and were knocked out of the group stage having lost to USA and India.

After the tournament, head coach Gary Kristen complained of internal politics inside the team and the lack of unity. He also stated that the players were creating lobbies against each other. Now, recent reports have stated that Kirsten has submitted a report to the PCB stating that Shaheen behaved very badly with the coaching staff during the T20 World Cup 2024.

This proves the ego clashes that is happening between the two camps inside the team. The whole Pakistan fanbase is divided. Some are supporting Babar Azam and some are supporting Shaheen Shah Afridi. Even former Pakistan all-rounder and Shaheen’s father in law, Shah Afridi, has stated that Babar has got enough opportunities as a captain and he should now be sacked completely. This has added more fuel to the fire.
