Aishwarya Rai Wished To Be Like Jaya Bachchan, Said, ‘If They Are Embarrassed Seeing What I Did…’

In a throwback interview, Aishwarya Rai spoke about her wish to be remembered like Jaya Bachchan.

Gorgeous actress and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai, has been winning millions of hearts with her charismatic personality. In 2007, she added Bachchan to her surname after marrying Abhishek Bachchan. In 2011, the couple jumped into parenthood and welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan.

Aishwarya Rai is known for being very choosy when it comes to selecting her roles. The actress, who is hailed for her beauty, has been quite vocal about refraining from exposing herself on camera. Since the beginning of her career in Bollywood, Aishwarya has not taken on projects which demand her to do intimate scenes on-screen.

Now, an old interview of Aishwarya is going viral on Reddit, in which she spoke about her decision to protect her image by not taking up bold roles. Speaking to a leading publication, Aishwarya expressed her desire to be like Jaya Bachchan and Hema Malini. In her words:

“I won’t discard my image with my clothes. I will be happy even I get no work. Certain things have to be private for the man you love, the family you go to as a daughter-in-law and finally, as a mother. If tomorrow, they are embarrassed seeing what I did on screen, I would be ashamed. My stardom will last another 10 years, but my family life will last for the rest of my life. I want to be a Hema Malini or a Jaya Bachchan and be remembered like that.”

Aishwarya Rai’s take on doing bold roles in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’

Though Aishwarya has often refrained from choosing bold roles, her appearance in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil raised many eyebrows. In the film, her steamy scenes with Ranbir Kapoor became a hot topic of discussion. Later, in an interview with a leading daily, the actress explained why she agreed to do Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and stated that she is close friends with director, Karan Johar and has wanted to work with him for a long time.

However, Aishwarya’s mother-in-law, Jaya Bachchan, once seemingly took an indirect dig at the former as she slammed the intimate scenes in movies. During her appearance at the Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival, Jaya Bachchan heaped praise on Bimal Roy and the kind of work she has done. Jaya Bachchan also expressed her displeasure over present-day films and stated that filmmaking today is mostly about business, and people no longer care about anything else other than numbers.

In the same interaction, Jaya also said that an open display of love and affection is tagged as ‘smart’ in today’s world. Although she never openly mentioned anything about Aishwarya or ADHM, her take on the explicit scenes in movies was seemingly a sneaky dig at the same time. Jaya could be quoted as saying:

“Earlier, filmmakers created art. Today, it’s a business and all about numbers. Everything is thrown at our face. People have forgotten subtlety. Open display of affection is considered smart… sharam naam ki toh cheez hee nahi hai.”

 

For the past many months, there have been constant rumours about trouble in Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s paradise. The reason is cited to be the actress’s soured relationship with her mother-in-law, Jaya Bachchan.
