Deepika Padukone, who will next be seen in Kalki 2898 AD, attended the grand event of the film in Mumbai on Wednesday along with the other cast members of the film. Upon welcoming Deepika on the stage, actor Rana Dagubatti, who was hosting segments of the event asked her, “Are you still in the character?” This was Deepika’s first public appearance at a film event flaunting her baby bump.

Responding to Rana, Deepika jokingly replied, “The film went on for three years so I thought why not do it for some more months?” Talking about her character in the film, she said, “I play a mother and the movie is out on the 27th for everyone to discover the rest of it.”

Referring to her baby bump, Deepika then shared a light moment talking about her co-star Prabhas and how he would feed the whole crew on set. She candidly shared, “I am like this because of all the food that he has fed me. Every day, at one point, it was like the food was not only coming from his home, it was like a full catering service. The highlight of the day almost became ‘What is Prabhas feeding everyone?’ Those who know him well, know that he feeds from the heart.”

Talking about making her debut in the Telugu film industry, Deepika said, “It’s unlike anything we’ve experienced or seen before. I remember doing the narration for this film through Covid. Nagi (Nag Ashwin) was on Zoom and I was at the other end and I could see sparks of genius in him even though it is just his second or third movie. You could tell, as he was narrating, there wasn’t much on paper but it was all in his mind and every time he spoke and you looked, and even now, when you look into his eyes you can see that the entire visual of what he has envisioned over the years, is so clear. That’s the only time, and I mean it in a good way, that you can actually hear him speak and speak so articulately because that’s the one thing he is completely consumed by and is passionate about.”

She then described her experience working on the film and revealed that she plays a mother in the sci-fi thriller. She said, “It’s been an incredible experience and a learning experience. It was a completely new world. The magic that is in Nagi’s head, we all actors discovered it along the way and it’s finally here for everyone to see. It’s been an incredible experience both personally and professionally.”
