Senior India Women batter Smriti Mandhana shared a hilarious video of a prank played on Shreyanka Patil on her social media handle to wish the latter on her birthday in a unique manner. In the clip, the off-spinner gets scared and falls as she goes near the door of a cupboard and someone screams at her.

Born in Bengaluru, Shreyanka is celebrating her 22nd birthday on Wednesday, July 31. Having made her international debut in December 2023, the youngster has so far featured in three ODIs and 12 T20Is, claiming five and 16 wickets respectively. She represents Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

On Wednesday, the young bowler’s senior Mandhana took to her official Instagram handle to share a wacky birthday wish for the off-spinner. The Indian vice-captain shared a clip of a prank that was played on Shreyanka. In the video, someone suddenly screams at the latter, who is shocked and ends up falling.

Mandhana shared the video with a cheeky caption that read:

“Happy Birthday Shreyy!! Had to wait a few days to put this video out. What better day than your Birthday! Have a great year ahead.”

Mandhana had a memorable Women’s Asia Cup 2024 campaign in Sri Lanka. The elegant left-handed batter scored 173 runs in four innings at an average of 57.66 and a strike rate of 137.30, with two half-centuries. The 28-year-old hit 45 off 31 balls against Pakistan. She scored 55* off 39 against Bangladesh in the semifinal and 60 off 47 in a losing cause against Sri Lanka in the final.

Shreyanka Patil’s Women’s Asia Cup campaign ended after one game due to injury

Speaking of Shreyanka, the off-spinner played only one match for India in the recently concluded 2024 Women’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. She was part of Team India’s playing XI for the game against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dambulla. The young spinner produced impressive figures of 2-14 from 3.2 overs, dismissing Aliya Riaz and Sadia Iqbal.

The 22-year-old was, however, ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an injury to her left hand. As per a press release from the Asian Cricket Council, she sustained a fracture to the fourth finger of her left hand.

The off-spinner was replaced by left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar, who made her international debut in the tournament. In four matches, Kanwar claimed one wicket at an economy rate of 4.75.
