A rare incident was witnessed on Day 4 of the one-off Test between Ireland and Zimbabwe at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast on Sunday, July 28. The Ireland pair of Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine completed an all-run five in their team’s second innings!

Hosts Ireland beat Zimbabwe by four wickets in the tightly contested one-off Test. Chasing a target of 158, Ireland had crumbled to 21-5 inside six overs. However, Tucker (56) and McBrine (55*) combined to lift the hosts to victory.

In the 18th over, McBrine punched a ball from Zimbabwe left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava through covers. Tendai Chatara chased the ball and stopped it inside the ropes, but could not prevent the Ireland batters from completing five runs.

A similar incident was witnessed during the India vs Australia Test match played at the Adelaide Oval in 1992. In their first innings of this match, India’s No. 10 and No. 11 batters, Venkatapathy Raju and Javagal Srinath, completed an all-run five.

Srinath drove a pitched-up delivery from Australian fast bowler Craig McDermott through the off-side. As the fielder from mid-off, Allan Border, could not stop the ball, he had to chase it down as it raced towards the boundary. Border managed to ‘save’ the boundary, but the Indian tailenders ended up running five!
