Director Guddu Dhanoa reveals Priyanka Chopra was told she is a 'very bad actor': 'Sunny Deol and I decided we will work her'

Before rising to Bollywood stardom and gaining global fame, Priyanka Chopra encountered considerable obstacles in her movie career. Director Guddu Dhanoa, who collaborated with her on ‘Big Brother’ and ‘Kismat,’ recently shed light on her challenging beginnings in the film industry in an interview with Bollywood Hungama.

Dhanoa shared that Priyanka’s early acting career was rife with challenges.
During the filming of her intended debut, ‘Big Brother,’ in Hyderabad between 2002 and 2003, Priyanka was keen to learn and frequently asked for advice on performing her scenes. Dhanoa noted her eagerness to improve and her natural good looks.

Despite the actress’ determination, negative feedback emerged from Mumbai after only 15-20 days of shooting. Reports criticized her acting skills and screen presence, casting doubts on her suitability for the role. Dhanoa recalled receiving messages urging him to review the footage, as opinions were that she looked and performed poorly.
Amid the growing criticism, actor and producer Sunny Deol continued to support Priyanka Chopra. After reviewing the footage with Dhanoa, they decided to stick with her for the film. Dhanoa noted that both he and Deol appreciated her screen presence and acting potential, believing she would improve—and they were proven right.

PeeCee’s perseverance and the backing from her director and producer eventually paid off. Not only did she complete the film, but she also significantly honed her acting skills. Dhanoa reminisced about being invited to her wedding reception in Mumbai, and praised her for her remarkable growth and success as an actor.
