Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a name synonymous with success, engaged in a heartfelt conversation at the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2023, which was held from October 27 to November 5, 2023. Here, she wasn’t just a Bollywood A-lister, but a vocal advocate for women in cinema.
During the festival, Priyanka Chopra discussed the challenges of leading female-centric films, noting the immense pressure because there are so few. When such movies don’t succeed, it feels like a setback for all women. She emphasized the importance of making the most of these rare opportunities, whether one is a director, actress, writer, or in any other role. Each failure feels personal because of the limited chances available, making it crucial to strive for success to avoid disappointing womankind.
Priyanka Chopra reflected on her film ‘Fashion’ and her character, Meghna Mathur. She shared that director Madhur Bhandarkar had noted how female-oriented films often cap off actresses’ careers, but she was just beginning, having already completed ‘Krrish’ and ‘Aitraaz’. Priyanka was drawn to ‘Fashion’s’ script and dedicated six months to it, considering it a labor of love. She spent time in Goa to develop Meghna’s character deeply, immersing herself in the role emotionally and physically. In addition to Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse, ‘Fashion’ features a strong supporting cast including Arjan Bajwa, Samir Soni, and Arbaaz Khan. The film was well-received by both audiences and critics.
On the work front, Priyanka Chopra was in Australia filming her upcoming movie ‘The Bluff’ before coming to India. She was joined by her husband, Nick Jonas, and their daughter, Malti Marie. The film also stars Karl Urban, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Safia Oakley-Green, and Vedanten Naidoo, and is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and AGBO.
Meanwhile, her Bollywood project ‘Jee Le Zaraa’, directed by Farhan Akhtar and starring Chopra, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt, is reportedly still in the works and set to begin soon.
