The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the team for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. As reported earlier, Suryakumar Yadav has been India’s new captain. He replaced Rohit Sharma, who retired from the shortest format after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of the national team, wanted SKY to be a leader, as he has played with him in the past. The two shared a dressing room during their association with the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Hardik Pandya, who was the front-runner before Gambhir took over from Rahul Dravid, lost the race due to his fitness issues.

Gautam doesn’t want a captain who is unavailable for all the games due to workload management issues. Hardik was not even deemed for vice-captaincy.

Shubman Gill is the vice-captain. Gill led the Men in Blue to a 4-1 win over Zimbabwe and was rewarded for his exceptional leadership. He is the captain of Gujarat Titans in IPL.

The most shocking omission was of Abhishek Sharma, who scored a brilliant hundred in the second T20I against Zimbabwe.
