India became World Champions by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in style. They did not lose any game in the tournament and became the first side to win the T20 World Cup without losing any game. Rohit Sharma led from the front and batted selflessly in the tournament, which contributed largely to India’s win. He was sensational with his tactics and orchestrated the win with his tactical brilliance.

After the T20 World Cup 2024 final, Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20I’s. Now, the responsibility falls on the younger brigade as Team India plans for the T20 World Cup 2026 at home.

Meanwhile, former World Cup winning captain, Kapil Dev,, has said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are irreplaceable in T20I cricket just like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni are.

“No one can take Virat and Rohit’s place in the Indian team in any format. They have been a huge servant of Indian cricket, and it was a happy farewell for them. The stature that Virat has made of himself in all formats, he will surely be missed in T20Is. Both are the same as Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. They are irreplaceable,” Kapil Dev said on the sidelines of the Trinity Golf Championship League second edition curtain-raiser event.

India beat South Africa by 7 runs in a rollercoaster final in Barbados on June 29. India won the toss and elected to bat first. They were 34-3 at one stage and staring down the barrel. However, Virat Kohli, who had been struggling with his form throughout the World Cup, stood up on the day of the final. He along with Axar Patel resurrected India’s innings as the set a target of 177 runs for South Africa to chase.

At one stage with Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller firing, the game was all but over for Team India. With 30 runs needed of 30 balls, Hardik Pandya picked up the wicket of Klaasen and started a miracle. Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh followed it up with two brilliant overs. At the end, Pandya defended the 16 runs off the final over as Suryakumar Yadav took a sensational catch on the first ball of the final over to change the match to India’s favour. India won an ICC event after 11 long years and gave the fans immense joy.
