Shah Rukh Khan, one of the biggest stars in the world, known as the Baadshah of Bollywood. His wife Gauri Khan and him are one of Bollywood’s most celebrated couples, known for their enduring love and successful careers. However, there was a time when his wife, Gauri Khan, who is also an interior designer and film co-producer, wished for his films to flop.
During a conversation with fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla for NDTV Good Times, Gauri revealed that she was not thrilled about Shah Rukh moving to Bombay (now Mumbai) to pursue his film career.

Which Indian star are you most excited to see in their upcoming international film?

At the time, she wasn’t fully aware of his growing stardom. The transition was shocking and difficult for her, and she hoped his films would fail so they could move back to Delhi. Gauri, who married Shah Rukh at 21, found the world of films overwhelming and unfamiliar.

She said, “Because I was not too happy about him coming to Bombay. I actually didn’t even know when he became a star. It was very shocking for me first to be here, and films and everything.”
She also shared that during the early days, she didn’t realize how successful Shah Rukh’s films were. When his first film, ‘Deewana’, did well, she was unaware of the impact. It wasn’t until his subsequent success with ‘Dilwale’ that she recognized his rising fame. Gauri found the rapid transition from a newcomer to a superstar astonishing.

Despite her initial resistance, Gauri acknowledged Shah Rukh’s ambition and talent. She even spoke about how he had always excelled in whatever he did, whether it was sports, theatre, or academics. She humorously credited herself for choosing the right partner, considering herself lucky to have Shah Rukh by her side.
Shah Rukh Khan’s career has indeed been remarkable. Last year, the actor delivered two consecutive Rs 1000 crore films, ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’. Additionally, his third film of the year ‘Dunki’ made around Rs. 454 crores globally, marking his most commercially successful year.
